drips magma across your dash

pangeasplits:

So because I couldn’t resist and because I’m doing absolutely nothing on a Friday night, I settled in and watched the Bill Nye the Science Guy episode on volcanoes that Sei thoughtfully posted for me

and man first of all I forgot how gr9 and truly-informative-without-actually-feeling-like-it his show was, since it’s been approximately 15 years since I’ve watched one, haha, but otherwise he (of course) did a pretty fantastic job about explaining volcanoes and how they form and function - I was impressed at some of the topics he hit on and still managed to make it super simple and easy for kids to understand (I realize this is/was his job but sTILL)

granted some of his information is a bit dated now, but that’s to be expected - and a large portion of my soul started crying when he skimmed over subducting slabs being hydrated by seawater and thus helping to form lava melt for volcanic output (I’ve taken an entire class on this process let me tell you) and also every time he mentioned mantle plumes that same portion of my soul flinched in horror (I’ve read at least 5 different papers on mantle plumes in the last month and they are not just gobs of play-dough let mE TELL YOU)

BUT ANYWAY there was also an ace game of geologic puns throughout the entire episode (A+, some of them were REALLY GOOD HAHA), so 10/10 would recommend, if you have 20 mins to kill give it a watch yo

also I could CRY with jealousy when he was playing with real magma you should’ve seen my face
