That dollar held on to that quarter
until it couldn’t anymore.
And then the dollar was unfolded, and used.
And so was the quarter.
They went their different ways.
And never saw each other again.
Psychologist Maria Konnikova is peeved with some of the discussion going on around Sherlock. Why? Is it the mystery of the exact events of the season three finale? Is it the pre-emptive hatred some sectors of the fandom seem to have developed for CBS’s Elementary? Hell, is she just wondering who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in Star Trek 2? No, it’s something that makes far more sense given her profession: Konnikova would like us all to stop referring to Holmes as a sociopath. Because according to her very compelling argument, he’s not.
Oh look, another person with expertise in psychopathy telling it how it is.
Now please god, will people stop diagnosing Sherlock (and themselves) as “high-functioning sociopaths?”
Do your research. It’s what Sherlock would have wanted.
Upon reading the analysis, though, doesn’t anybody else feel that in a way, Sherlock wants to be one? Not always so explicitly, but I mean it like - he raises that statement, and calls himself a sociopath, as something of a defence. He wants other people to think he’s one, to protect himself. Not to mention, he actively disdains emotion at times, so in a way he resents his own empathy, I feel.
Actually I just scrolled down to the comments and it looks like the first person is thinking along the same lines, they phrased it a lot better than me:
I always thought that Sherlock calling himself a sociopath was more of just a shield he put up around himself, to try and convince others of that fact, giving himself one more protection against emotion. If others thought him incapable of it, then they would be less likely to press it. Also, if Moriarty had though him a sociopath, then the events of Reichenbach could have never happened. The writers included that so that they could prove it wrong as the series progressed.
MAGNETO vs WINTER SOLDIER - House of M
One of these days, he seriously just needs to do a mic drop
They may be the colours of an empire about to fall, but at least they don’t clash, Magneto.

Day 2: Favourite character
↳ Hershel LaytonNo matter who’s introduced, no matter how adorable they are, or how clever, no one could possibly ever, ever replace the Professor as my favourite character. I’ve been playing these games since the first came out and he has consistently managed to stay on top. He’s nothing short of brilliant, he wears the classiest top hat, plays piano, knows how to swordfight…!
But most of all, he is a gentleman to the core. Always. He’s never rude, or spiteful. He can get angry, and when it does, it’s frightening - but for the best. He is lovely and can hide his emotions very well, which means that when he does break down, it hits hard, because that really doesn’t happen often.
Layton will ask you if you’re all right even after you’ve tried to kill him. He’ll forgive in spite of all the things you’ve done. And he has the sweetest way of dealing with people he loves. I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but in nearly every game he’s hugged, covered, or just jumped on top of someone to protect them - Luke, Flora, Katia. The Professor will be close to death before he lets you get a scratch.
“After all, that’s what a gentleman does.”
